Grease the threads of the forcing screw to prevent wear.

Use eye protection—ball joints often pop loose with force.

Do not hammer the separator—let the screw do the work.

If joint is severely stuck, you may apply heat to the knuckle (not the ball joint) to expand the metal slightly.
